An Au Pair's Typical Day and Week

au pair company schedule children school age host parent child parentsSo, you are thinking about becoming an au pair but are wondering, "What might my schedule be like?

Well, every au pair will have a different schedule, depending on the ages of the children they care for, the work schedules of the host parents, and various after-school activities.

Usually, if you are in a family with school-aged children, you will have more free time during the day, and if your kids are not in school yet, you will be free more in the evenings.

Sample Daily Schedule

 

8:00 a.m. Eat breakfast with Ryan and Britney
8:20 a.m. Get Britney ready for school
8:45 a.m. Drive Britney to school
10:00 a.m. Play date with Ryan
12:00 p.m. Eat lunch with Ryan
2:00 p.m. Put Ryan down for a nap
3:30 p.m. Pick Britney up from school
4:00 p.m. Make Britney a snack, help her with her homework
5:15 p.m. Host parents both arrive home
6:00 p.m. Dinner with the family
7:30 p.m. Meet with friends at Starbucks

Maria is an au pair taking care of a 1-year-old boy, Ryan, and an 8-year-old girl, Britney. Both of Maria’s host parents, Amy and Don, work outside of the home from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Below, you can see a typical week and a typical day for Maria.

Make lunch, put Ryan down for a nap, pick up Britney and then take the kids to the park

Dinner, go to a cluster meeting at Starbucks

THURSDAY

Make breakfast, take Britney to school, read and play with Ryan

Make lunch, put Ryan down for a nap, pick up Britney, take the kids to the library for story time

Dinner with the family, go to the movies with some friends from school

FRIDAY

Make breakfast, take Britney to school, color with Ryan
