Travel as an Au Pair in America

travel au pair america usa united states aupair interexchange j1 visaOne of the great things about traveling as an au pair in America with Au Pair USA is that au pairs have the chance to spend 6 weeks traveling.  You will have 2 weeks during your program year, and 4 extra weeks at the end of your program year.  There are many options available.   You can indulge your "nature side,"  or spend some time playing in a big city; you can go to an amusement park or visit a National Park; you can go to the beach or take a trip to the mountains — anything you want!

Let's see what fun things these au pairs did with their vacation time:

  • Heidi: I really like nature and hiking, so I decided to go on a 14-day trip with Trek America that included Seattle, Yellowstone National Park, the Arches, the Grand Canyon, and Las Vegas.  I also went to Orlando, Florida with my host family, and spent a long weekend in Boston with some friends.
  • Iryna: I just wanted to go relax on the beach somewhere, so I took a trip to California to see Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego.  I went on a ski trip (my first time skiing!) in Colorado over the winter break, too.
  • Samuel: I  went to all the cities I could  fit in!  I managed to visit New Orleans, Miami, New  York, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. I also took an 8-day Trek America rafting trip through the Grand Canyon, which was awesome!
  • Carolina: I went  to Niagara Falls (both the Canadian and American sides), and also went to Michigan to visit a friend who was an au pair there.  I was so excited because I also had the chance to take my sister on vacation to Seattle when she came to visit.

These are just some of the options that are available to you.  You have the entire country at your fingertips, and 6 weeks to explore it!  So have fun, be creative, and make the most out of this opportunity!   Take a look at the au pair resource center Travel Discounts and Information section to get some helpful tips!
