Becoming an Au Pair Host Family

aupair host families children family au pairs

In order to become a host family, you must live in an area that is covered by one of our local coordinators. Enter your zip code to make sure you live in our coverage area.

Host Family Application Deadlines and Au Pair Arrival Dates

Applications can be submitted at any time, but use our Au Pair Arrival Calendar as a guide for helping you plan ahead and to judge when your au pair will likely arrive.

Once you have been accepted into the program, you will receive a copy of our Handbook for Host Families and Au Pairs, which will tell you everything you need to know about choosing an au pair and planning for the year ahead. It also contains valuable tips on building a relationship with your au pair and more. Your local coordinator will also be available to help you with every step and to answer any questions you may have.

Host Family Interviews

Your local coordinator will review your application and contact you to schedule a program orientation session and interview. During this meeting you and your coordinator will meet face to face and you have the opportunity to ask any questions you might have.  You will also discuss your specific childcare needs in order to help us match you with an au pair who fits your family's lifestyle.

Au Pair Matching

Au pair matching is done by our placement coordinators and not automated by a computer, like many of our competitors. This ensures that you receive personal attention and that we meet the needs of your family. We identify those qualities in an au pair that are important to you, and send you the most appropriate au pair applications for you to review.

Host Families Make the Final Decision

Once you see an au pair you think is a match for your family, you'll speak with the potential au pair on the phone at least twice. Our Handbook for Host Families and Au Pairs offers suggested questions. If you and the au pair agree to match, let us know, and we will start making arrangements for your au pair’s arrival. Remember, your family always has the final say in choosing an au pair.
