Long Island, NY - North Shore Area

Au Pair USA has a very active cluster of au pairs and host families in the communities on Long Island, including many areas of Nassau, Suffolk and Queens County. Each month, Au Pair USA Local Coordinators work with host families, helping them with the matching process and answering their questions about the program. They also arrange monthly meetings and social events for au pairs to help them build friendships and adjust to life in the United States.

Your Au Pair USA Local Coordinator:

Sandrine Gold

Sandrine’s community of au pairs and host families includes North Shore Long Island: Great Neck, Port Washington, Brookville, Syosset, Huntington and many more areas of North Shore Long Island.

About Sandrine:

Hello! My name is Sandrine Gold, I have been a local coordinator since September 2007. I work as a French teacher and I founded my own language company in 2001. I am living in Port Washington on Long Island. My husband’s name is Edward, he works in the music industry. We have two little boys, David who was born in December 2003 and Jonathan who was born in December 2006. We love living on Long Island. It is close to New York City so we get to enjoy the museums, the theaters etc, but at the same time we get to enjoy the community and the calm of our town. We like to travel to other countries, especially France. I am French and came to the States as an au pair (with Au Pair Homestay which later on merged with Au Pair USA) in January 1998. I had a wonderful experience and enjoyed my stay.

I will be available to answer any questions you have, guide you and give you advice to help you make this year a wonderful experience. I will meet once a month with au pairs from my cluster, we will talk about American culture, traditions and many more things. I will also be in touch with au pairs and host families on a regular basis to answer everyone’s questions.

I will send au pairs and host families a monthly newsletter that will tell more about our meetings and information regarding our program.

You can reach me anytime if you have questions. My au pairs and I also meet once a week on Monday night after 8pm at my house in Port Washington, NY. This meeting is not mandatory but it gives everyone a chance to talk more. I look forward to meeting you!

Best wishes,
Sandrine

About Sandrine's Cluster:

  • Long Island is an island just off southeast New York State. At the westernmost end of Long Island you will find Brooklyn and Queens, which are two of the five boroughs that make up New York City.
  • Suffolk County is known for beach towns, including the world-renowned Hamptons, and for the most eastern part of the Island, Montauk Point, home of Montauk Lighthouse.

  • Long Island has warm, humid summers and cold winters, but the Atlantic Ocean helps bring afternoon sea breezes that temper the heat in the warmer months and limit the frequency and severity of thunderstorms.
