Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What do I need to take with me when I go to the doctor's office?
A. You should take your insurance confirmation card you were given at orientation, your passport, your DS-2019 form, and your individual insurance policy number.
Q. Where do I get my individual insurance policy number from?
A. You will receive it from your local coordinator about 2 weeks after your orientation.
Q. What if I have to go to the doctor before I receive my individual insurance policy number?
A. Call InterExchange and someone will speak to TIS and get the number for you.
Q. What does TIS need from me to process my refund?
A. They will need a signed and dated claim form and either the physician's bill or a fully itemized statement of charges with the diagnosis written on the attending physician's letterhead.
Q. If my medical provider sent the bill directly to the TIS claims department do I still have to fill out a claim form?
A. Yes, they will still need a claim form from you in order to identify the medical bill they received from the medical provider.
Q. If my medical provider sent the bill directly to the TIS claims departments do I still have to submit an additional copy of it with my claim form?
A. No, the exact bill and claim form do not have to be mailed together. If your medical provider sent in the bill you only have to send in the claim form.
Q. If I have multiple injuries/bills (i.e. one bill for the emergency room visit, one bill for medication, and one bill for a follow-up visit) do I have to fill out multiple claim forms, or can they all be put on one claim?
A. You must submit a new form for each injury/bill (i.e., one claim form for the E.R. visit, one for the prescription filled at the pharmacy, and one for the follow up visit).
Q. Am I covered under the insurance when I travel out of the country?
A. Your health insurance plan covers you if you are on vacation in all countries except your home country.
Q. When should I call InterExchange in regards to insurance?
A. Only call InterExchange when you have tried your hardest to get answers directly from the insurance company and have not been able to. In general, the insurance company prefers to speak to you, the client, directly.
Q. If I do have to call InterExchange, what information do I need to provide?
A. You will need your name, date of injury, exact total of the bill (with breakdown if possible), and the name, address, and phone number of the medical facility and doctor where you obtained treatment.
