Host families find au pairs either from an online search or through an Au Pair Agency's matching program. Even if a famiy finds an au pair through their own search, they will still need to work with an au pair agency designated by the U.S. Department of State to issue au pair visas. This ensures that the au pair is legally entitled to work and live in the U.S., has undergone a mandatory child health and safety program and is  covered by international health and accident insurance.

Matching With an Au Pair through an Au Pair Agency

Au pair agencies provide a matching service as part of their fee. Matching with the right au pair is the first step in ensuring a successful au pair program.  Our placement coordinators review host family  applications in detail and speak with our local coordinators who interview host families to help establish what type of au pair would best fit into the household.

Families are sent detailed au pair applications to review and are required to speak with a potential au pair by phone at least twice before making a commitment. With Au Pair USA, unlike most other agencies, only one family at a time can review an au pair’s application. This means that your family can carefully consider an application and not be rushed into make a decision.

Finding an Au Pair Online

Many websites allow you to view profiles of au pairs online but they typically charge a fee to obtain contact information. These costs are in addition to the fees later paid to the au pair agency.
