Au Pair USA Staff Bios
SVP Au Pair USA
I started working at InterExchange in 2002 after returning to the U.S. after living, working, and studying abroad in England, Japan, and France. I currently live in Princeton Junction, NJ with my wife, four-year-old daughter, two-year-old son, and 65 pound English bulldog. My job is to establish and communicate the priorities and goals for the program, while managing the day-to-day operations of the department. I also represent InterExchange Au Pair USA at various industry conferences, advocacy events with congressional representatives, and meetings with U.S. Department of State personnel.
Vice President of Program Development
My name is Heidi Mispagel and I’m the VP of Program Development. I work with our wonderful Program Advisor Corrie and Placement Specialists Ginny, Amanda and Crystal. I’m also very involved in Passport development projects to make our systems more efficient and user-friendly. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area with my husband Jason and our six kids ages 16, 15, 13, 13, 11, and 9. In addition to spending time with my family, I like to be creative and enjoy decorating, gardening, and entertaining.
Director of Field Services
My first experience traveling abroad came in my role as a Flight Attendant for Northwest Airlines. I traveled internationally during those years and enjoyed trips to Asia and Europe. I started my career in the Au Pair Program 28 years ago when my youngest of four was born and I needed to be closer to home. My role at InterExchange is Director of Field Services and I hope to continue to develop Field Services and the communities we serve across the U.S. I live in the Kansas City, Missouri area and during my free time, I enjoy spending time with family and I am an avid reader, love biking and taking in the local live music scene that Kansas City offers. However, during the pandemic my husband and I played dominoes, cards and worked together on puzzles!
International Relations Manager
I have been working with InterExchange Au Pair USA since April 2008, after spending time studying abroad in France and Germany and then returning to France to teach English. I currently supervise the intake of au pair applications, as well as projects involving au pair recruitment. I also manage our network of International Cooperators, providing training, collaborating on marketing efforts and serving as our program's main point of contact between our corporate staff and ICs. In addition to traveling to new scuba destinations, I enjoy baking, reading historical non-fiction, taking group fitness classes and camping with my family in Colorado.
Field Services Coordinator
I have been the Field Services Coordinator for Au Pair USA for the past three years. Prior to that I was a Local Coordinator in New Jersey for two years. My role supports the Director of Field Services and my job encompasses the Transition, Extensions and Local Coordinator Field Services departments. I enjoy the variety of tasks that come with my role, interacting with the field staff and helping to solve problems that have been escalated. When not solving problems, I like to relax by reading, traveling and sitting on the beach.
Client Relations and Communications Coordinator
I joined InterExchange Au Pair USA in April 2017 and currently, I work with host families and our field staff to ensure that host families are complying with the program requirements. I also serve as a liaison between host families and our Finance Department. I was born and raised in the Greater New York City Area, but I have studied in South Korea and Japan. My interests include traveling, tennis, history, tech, and I recently picked up cooking.
I have been working for InterExchange Au Pair USA for more than 10 years now, first as a Local Coordinator in NJ and then as your Program Advisor. I have been exposed to the au pair world since my childhood when my family had au pairs through InterExchange. In my role as Program Advisor I have had the pleasure of working with our great team in NY remotely from NJ as well as our awesome Local Coordinators. My job entails working directly with Host Families to educate them about our program and get them into the matching process. In my free time I enjoy traveling, spending time at the beach, cooking and being with friends and family including my dog Harley and am currently trying to learn another language.
For the past 3 years, I have had the pleasure of assisting host families during the matching process to find the best au pair for their family. Prior to joining the cultural exchange community, I taught middle school history, where I discovered a passion for cultural awareness through education. When I am not busy helping our families and au pairs, you can find me chasing after my 2 boys and 2 pups, reading, practicing yoga, or spending time with friends. I live in Raleigh, North Carolina.
I’ve been with Au Pair USA for three years. I am originally from Minnesota but I have been living in St. Louis for the past 16 years. I started my career in Human Resources Management, but I have been in the Au Pair industry for almost 25 years. When I am not matching host families and au pairs, I am spending time with my five boys and cheering for them in their various sports or musical endeavors. My baby is 16 and I welcomed my first daughter-in-law in 2021. Most weekends you can find me in an ice rink, baseball field, gym, pool or Rugby pitch. I love to travel and enjoy working out and outdoor activities, especially hiking and biking.
My name is Crystal Madera and I live in the city that never sleeps...New York City. I was born and raised in the largest borough of New York City - Queens. Both of my parents were born in the Dominican Republic and I am very proud of my background. I have two children Jordan and Sariah, and they are truly my greatest blessings. I have a Bachelor's degree in Human Services from the NYC College of Technology. I have extensive hands-on work in the human service field, with skills in advocacy, counseling, mentoring, and administration. I have been working with InterExchange for almost 3 years now and I absolutely love helping people in any way that I can. A few interesting facts about me are: traveling fills my soul, I absolutely love nature, I'm a bookworm, I enjoy writing poetry, spreading positive energy, and plants make me incredibly happy!
International Logistics Manager
I am originally from Florida, but I spent about 7 years living and working abroad before moving back to the U.S. last year. I joined InterExchange Au Pair USA in June 2019 after working for about one year in the Work and Travel department. As the International Logistics Manager, I help au pairs with their pre-arrival and visa processes, international and domestic travel arrangements, and visa/travel issues throughout their program. I enjoy traveling, reading, playing tennis and trying new restaurants in my free time.
I have always had a love of film, which was my major in college, and is also what originally led me to Japan. I lived in several areas of Japan for 6 years, and during that time fell in love with teaching. My long-time future goal is to go back to school and become a film professor, but for now, I am loving my position that keeps me close to the international community I have grown to love so much. I deeply enjoy welcoming au pairs from all over the world and teaching them about my culture, learning about theirs, and passing on the wisdom I have procured over the years in regards to culture shock and making a life overseas.
An avid goal setter personally and professionally, I get great joy from encouraging others to do the same. As the Regional Supervisor for the South Region, my role is to support, encourage and mentor local coordinators in the field. As a local coordinator myself, I love seeing the au pairs mature and grow during their program year and getting to know host families who are committed to raising globally-minded children. I am originally from New York and now live in a suburb of Atlanta with my husband and our two amazing boys. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, volunteering at church or my boys schools. You can always find me cheering on my boys at their sporting events, in a fitness class or sweating it out at a hot yoga. Put yourself where your strengths produce results!
I have been with InterExchange Au Pair USA since 2013, as a local coordinator and then as the Regional Supervisor for the Northeast Region. I came to the role after watching friends have such amazing experiences hosting au pairs. I loved the way it opened the world to the kids and exposed them to cultures outside of our small communities. I have dual master’s degrees in Social Work and Public Health and always think about how my social work skills come in handy, working with families and au pairs to navigate close relationships. Now they are even more important in my role mentoring, supporting and training Local Coordinators. I live on Long Island not far from NYC with my husband, son, daughter and 2 dogs. We are all very active; you can find us playing tennis, paddle, hockey, lacrosse, golf, crafting, reading and more. We love to explore new and different places and we are always looking for our next adventure.
I have had the pleasure of working at Au Pair USA since 1995! I left my nursing career to pursue my love of cultural exchange and hoping to make a difference. My family has hosted several au pairs and have continued a long, caring relationship with them even now when they are adults with children of their own. As a Regional Supervisor, my role is mentoring, supporting, and encouraging the Local Coordinators in the field with the desired result of success! My role as an LC gives me the opportunity to work with au pairs and host families to foster cultural awareness through the program. In my free time, my favorite place to be is with my husband, three adult children, family, and friends. Traveling is my passion and I am ready to go at a moment's notice.
Since 2006 I have had the pleasure of being part of the InterExchange Au Pair USA family. As the San Diego Local Coordinator, a Local Coordinator Mentor and as a Regional Supervisor I take pride in my role to provide support to host families, au pairs and Local Coordinators. My family has also been a host family to 5 incredible au pairs that continue to remain a part of my family's life after many years. I have always loved to travel and meet new people and was able to incorporate my love for traveling with my college education by studying abroad in London, England for one year. When I am not working, which also includes being a 1st-grade teacher, I continue to travel as much as possible with my husband and 2 children. My favorite place to be when we have the time is the Big Island of Hawaii, sitting on the beach with a book in my hand.
